Somalia: Sporadic Clashes Restart in North Mogadishu

Mogadishu — Sporadic fighting between the government soldiers and Islamist forces has restarted in the north of the Somali capital Mogadishu, witnesses told Shabelle radio on Wednesday.

Residents said that the clashes started near the police station of Karan district in north of the capital early on Wednesday morning where both sides were using heavy weapons with shelling.

On Tuesday, three children were reported to have been injured as a mortar shell landed near the police station where they stationed.

Some of the residents said that the sound of gunfire could be heard early morning adding that the situation was rather calm.

No casualty was reported so far as the fighting seems a signal which both warring sides are informing their presence in the frontline of warring zone to the other.

Hundreds of civilians including women and children had displaced from Karan district in north of the capital in over the past few days’ fighting between the transitional government soldiers and the Islamist forces.

The sporadic fighting comes as the few residents remained in Karan district are feeling calm situation in the last three days.
